So close!

Posted under Uncategorized

Doug Horrisberger could only look on with total disdain Thursday night as a late MPR rally fell short.

After scoring four times in the final inning, MPR lost 8-7 to the History Center folks.  Jim Bickal knocked in six of the team’s seven runs!  Elsewhere, Johnny Rothman scored thrice and Captain Tom also scored two runs, though Tom still has a good five weeks of penance to make up for defensive blunders of games past.

Most teammates agreed the team probably could have won if Michael Jackson’s death had been the only event of the day; but to add Farrah Fawcett’s death, the launch of the NewsQ website, and the fact that this was the first game Bill Wareham played without his dearly departed bat — it was just too much.

Does our website need a new look?

Posted under Uncategorized

With all this talk of new websites, we’re wondering if the look of this website should change.  For example, that banner across the top — should we change it or keep it?

Here are some possible candidates for a new banner – let us know what you think:

Beating the heat, and the B-Dubs

Posted under Uncategorized

The Tues night team pulled off a victory Tuesday!!  A 14-12 win over B-Dubs.   Gus hit a grand slam.  Chris and Mason also had home runs.   No injuries were reported.

According to Linda Wareham’s Facebook status update:  “Apparently, softball in 86 degree weather is more bearable if you win.  Take that, weather.”  Wareham then reportedly kicked an ugly dog and punched three water coolers to emphasize her point.

We mourn the Wareham bat…

Posted under Uncategorized

The Wareham bat died this weekend at the batting cage – it was a trusty companion for the Wareham clan for the past four or five seasons.

Fittingly, the finale for this bat was last week’s hit by Linda Wareham, which won the game for MPR.  RIP, Wareham bat…

A Wareham walk-off win!

Posted under Uncategorized

MPR won 13-12 Thursday night over Catch & Release, thanks to a two-out hit by Linda Wareham in the bottom of the 7th to drive home Laurie Johnson for the winning run!  Linda’s hit:

Of course, MPR wasn’t originally planning to need its last at-bat.  The team entered the top of the 7th leading 11-8.  But, fear not — Captain Tom’s complete inability to field or do anything on a softball field that resembles defense (on three fly balls in four minutes) allowed our opponents to score four runs and take the lead…

Fortunately, that lead change was only temporary, allowing for a satisfying win and hearty Chalk Talk…

Three homers! (no win)

Posted under Uncategorized

MPR bats were hot Tuesday night!  Chris Bjork got the offense started in the first inning with his first of two home runs!  Here’s Chris rounding third and scoring:

… which pleased coach and wife Jill Riley…

Later, Emily Reese stopped a line drive with her foot but can’t go on the disabled list because she’s a woman…

But that didn’t happen until after Rich hit this towering three-run home run!

Final score:  Them 25; MPR 10.

Why Srini rules…

Posted under Uncategorized

Srini broke his finger fielding a grounder a few weeks ago… and played the rest of the game.  The next day, he found out he might need pins…

dsc_3548

But here’s why Srini rules:  He asked me today how long the season lasts — he wanted to make sure he’ll get in a few games after the break is healed and he does his rehab stint in the minors.  Srini might look sad in this photo, but we’ll all be very happy to have him back.

Losing streak — snapped!

Posted under Uncategorized

Maybe it was the good luck charms.

dsc_3467

… Owen Sheck drooled on Jim Bickal and Jim hit the game’s only home run.

dsc_3489

… Obahn Scheck licked Captain Tom’s leg, and Tom smacked a screaming line-drive RBI single in his first at bat.

dsc_3474

… and the entire team was graced by a visit from this mysterious parrot, helping MPR beat the poop team 15-6.  Tom Rothman made a triumphant return and heckled his own son.  Suzanne almost threw the ball all the way back to the mound once while playing catcher.  And the team was yelled at by an opposing player who looked like Ben Wareham but who swore like Gary Eichten.  Chalk Talk was all the more deserved and well-attended, especially given our lack of any player injury.
