A whole lotta nothin’

Posted under Bombat

Tuesday night’s lack of hitting gave much fodder for Bombat consideration. 3 runs is a pretty poor showing of offensive prowess. Jenner did NOT hit a homerun, so she’s obviously not living up to her potential. Still, with May coming to a close, I’m the leading candidate for the coveted prize. Fortunately, there’s still a lot of season left to play.

No wasted runs

Posted under Scores/Recaps

Big catchYou only need one hand to tally up the runs scored by both teams combined in Tuesday night’s, uh, defensive gem. Fortunately, MPR managed to reserve three digits on that proverbial hand, our opponents only two. Whew!

Defensive play of the game honor goes to Jeff Jones for his 7th inning game-saving grab, pictured above. It looked like a gapper by a batter who represented the winning run until Jeff came sweeping across from his post in right field to snare it on the run.

Girl Power and all that

Posted under Bombat

Nancy and Jenner have established their batting potential.  Jim would like me to add that his .917 average should keep him out of the running.  Brian Bakst and Al Schoch also have team high status as Memorial Day rolls in.  Just a reminder to these and all you other early peakers that it’s a long season and there’s lots of time for a slide.  By the way, giving away the bombat has had a boosted Allison’s average to .700.  Way to go Rook.

Girl Power

Posted under Scores/Recaps

Nancy hit two homers and drove in five runs. Jenner, who was battling a cold, hit a homer and a triple and also drove in five runs. All four of those hits burned the opposing outfielders and were not a product of the errorless Eichten scoring system. Amy made the defensive play of the game with a nice running catch in right centerfield.

MPR came from behind to beat Pino’s Pizza 22 to 18. Our season record is now 5-1-2.

Early season Wick candidate: #13 who twice screamed as he ran to a base where a play was being made on him, pinch ran when he wasn’t the last male out and didn’t shake hands after the game.

Shattered
This was Al Schoch’s view from the driver’s seat following a pre-season practice in which Mason Wibstad planted a pitch well over the left field fence along Lexington Parkway at Riverside Park. Who woulda thought anyone could do that? (Answer: Not Al)

Hit Parade

Offense (and not defense) was on display as we outslugged the Agwarriors 25 to 19.

Shortstop Jeff Johnson did make a fine catch after a long run on a pop up down the left field line.

Welcome OBB’s to the family

Posted under Scores/Recaps

If tying is like kissing your sister, then it’s time to welcome a new sibling to a family that already added the team from Probation earlier this season. This time the tie came against OBB’s, 16 runs apiece.

First loss

An eight-run rally in the 4th inning wasn’t enough to counter the hot Doc’s Landing bats.

Found: Pitching depth

Posted under Scores/Recaps

Fred Child and Jeff Johnson combine for a strong night on the mound, while the rest of the team provides some solid defense and consistency through the batting order. It all adds up to a 17-10 victory over Alary’s and a still undefeated season record.
