After Tuesday’s dramatic come-from-behind victory, surely the Thursday team couldn’t repeat such a crazy feat, right?
Well… listen to this folks.
After going down 10-0 against the B-dubs… yes, we were losing 10-to-nothing… MPR started to fight back slowly. Coach Tom wants everyone to know that Coach Tom knocked in the first run of the night for the Whippets. From there, we inched back and improved defensively after Johnny spent the first few innings aiming for ducks sitting on top of the school building.
We retired B-dubs one inning on just four pitches! And that fired us up for a six-run sixth inning to bring us within two runs.
In the bottom of the seventh, trailing by three, the bottom of the order singled and walked their way on base, setting up the big bats. And with two outs and the winning run on third, Fred Child smacked a single that dropped just in front of the right fielder, allowing Jeff Johnson to score.
MPR 16; BDubs 15. Two come-from-behind victories in one week! In both games, the only time the MPR team led was when it scored the winning run. That’s just crazy.
Al Schoch, the second-oldest player on the team, wants everyone to know that Al played in both miracle wins. The only difference was the lack of collisions at the plate.
Chalk talk was well-attended, though the streak of winning big at pull tabs appears to be over. Team mascot Doug returned, though Audrey Bakst is closing in on claiming that title for herself. During the game, after Brian Bakst fouled out, he walked back to where Audrey was sitting and she said in a very cute way “It’s okay, daddy.” Yes, Brian, it is okay.
