At times during the season, we will utilize the “group” system to determine who plays in the field.
Instead of being assigned to specific positions, players are placed in a group. Typically, a group consists of three players. They decide among themselves which two of the three will play in the field each inning. This results in 10 players for each defensive inning. When the inning begins, each player goes to a position on the field where he or she is comfortable playing. If more than one player goes to the same position, they work it out among themselves who will move to a different position. It may sound chaotic, but it has worked well in the past.

(Editor’s note: Bombat holder Linda Wareham has been invited to share her thoughts about potential recipients throughout this season. You can follow what I’m sure will be a very interesting train of thought by selecting the Bombat category.)
Although I missed Thursday night’s game, I did get an opportunity to see a lot of early season softball at the doubleheader on Tuesday. The 7th inning comeback in game two showed a lot of hitting heart and gave me things to file away as I begin the process of eliminating all but one of you. Early season leaders: Jim because he was mean to me, Scheck just because it will make him crazy, and me because I didn’t get a hit. Has anyone given themselves the Bombat? I’ll have to check with the Historian. Those of you who were at Thursday’s game, feel free to weigh in.

From Linda Wareham:
Once again, I have been named Co-Queen of T shirts. This year’s prices are
$11 for the short-sleeve grey shirt and $16 for the baseball shirt (slightly
more for XXL). If we get more than 10 orders for a style, the price goes
down by several dollars. Please let me know if you are interested in
ordering a shirt. I’d like to place the order by the end of the week.
Send your order to linda_wareham@hopkins.k12.mn.us

This is the farthest we’ve gotten into a season without losing in many years. Tonight (5/3) we beat The Who 28 to 11, putiing our season record at 2-0-1.

Opening night featured a couple of late-inning rallies.
In the early game, the team came from behind to beat OBB’s 10-7.
The second game saw the team score eight runs in the 7th inning to tie it up for a 16-16 final against Probation.
